Welcome to Gondar Polytechnic College

Foundation and Early Years as Skill Development Center (1989 E.C. - 1993 E.C.) Gondar Polytechnic College traces its origins to 1989 Ethiopian Calendar (E.C.), founded as the Skill Development Center in the Amhara Region, Ethiopia. At establishment, the center began with:

  • 14 dedicated teachers
  • 7 occupational training programs
  • Its initial mandate was to address the growing demand for skilled labor in the region by providing practical, job-oriented training. The Center focused on equipping youth and adults with skills relevant to the local economy, laying the groundwork for technical education in the area.

    Transformation into Gondar TVET Institution (1993 E.C. - 1999 E.C.)
In 1993 E.C., in line with Ethiopia's national strategy to expand technical and vocational education, the Center was elevated to the Gondar TVET Institution. This transition enabled the institution to:
  • Broaden its curriculum to include more disciplines and modern technologies
  • Increase its intake capacity to serve more students
  • Strengthen partnerships with local industries and employers
  • The Institution played a vital role in supporting regional development through workforce training tailored to community and market needs.

    Upgrading to Gondar TVET College (1999 E.C. - Mid 2002 E.C.)
By 1999 E.C., the Institution was further upgraded to Gondar TVET College. This upgrade introduced:
  • Enhanced facilities and training workshops
  • More specialized programs in engineering, construction, business, and technology
  • A renewed focus on quality assurance and competency-based education
  • The college responded to the evolving demands of the labor market, ensuring graduates were well-prepared for employment or self-employment.

Emergence as Gondar Polytechnic College (Mid 2002 E.C. to Present)
After mid-2002 E.C., the institution attained the status of Gondar Polytechnic College, marking a new era of growth, innovation, and community engagement. Today, the College is recognized as a premier institution for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ethiopia. Key Roles and Activities
